The Speedo Swedish goggle is a very simplistic, low-profile goggle designed with the competitive swimmer in mind.
The Original Malmsten Goggle
The Speedo Swedish Goggle is the original Malmsten Swedish goggle style, created by Olympic coach Tommy Malmsten thirty-five years ago. It's key feature is a minimalist, low profile frame that keeps the Malmsten goggle close to the face for less drag.
Low-Profile for Drag Reduction
These low-profile goggles are ideal for competition. These are hard frame goggles, a solid mold with all of the cushioning and luxury stripped away to reduce drag. They do not use a gasket to for a seal, but rely on a customized fit to create a watertight seal (“How to fit your Speedo goggle” instructions included).
Without the gasket to obstruct vision, and because the Speedo Swedish goggle sits so close against the eye socket, it features an expanded side view for a wide range of vision. An anti-fog coating keeps that view crystal clear.
Self-Assembly for a Unique Fit
The Speedo Swedish goggle 2 Pack comes unassembled, and requires user assembly to encourage a custom fit. The object in fitting the Swedish Goggle is adjusting the latex strap and nosebridge so the eye cups of the Malmsten Goggle fit in the eye socket itself; this forms the watertight seal.
A proper fit is vital to these goggles working correctly. Refer to the “How to fit your Speedo Goggle” instructions included to ensure a correct fit. A Speedo Swedish goggle care instruction manual is also included.
All Speedo Swedish goggles feature double latex strap for a custom secure fit.
This is a small, sleek, low-profile goggle. Assembled, these goggles weigh less than 1 ounce. These are the ideal competition swim goggle.
Price is for 2 pair of swedish goggles, available in a clear lens and a smoke mirrored lens OR a smoke lens and multi-mirrored lens combo pack. Mirrored goggles provide maximum visibility and minimum glare on bright days; this is an excellent way to grab an outdoor and indoor goggle for the price of one.
The AquaGear Opinion
It takes some patience and dexterity to assemble the Speedo Swedish Goggle, and this is a crucial part of these goggles working right. Expect to spend 5 to 10 minutes assembling your goggles. The Speedo Swedish Goggle is very, very low profile. It literally sits in the eye socket, and this allows for good peripheral vision. This is a competition goggle by every definition. Despite all logic, water does not enter the Swedish even though it has no gasket.
The Bottom Line
Competition swim goggles can't get much lower-profile than the Speedo Swedish Goggle. This is an incredible value: two pairs of sleek, drag-reducing goggles for less than the price of one traditional goggle. Make sure you snag a pair before your opponents do.
