Hydro-Fit Hand Buoys
Hydro-Fit Water Resistance Hand Buoys

Hydro-Fit Hand Buoys are an aquatic dumbbell designed to increase arm resistance and intensify your workout. Sold in pairs, the Hydro-Fit Hand Buoy uses premium quality Ethafoam's flotation properties and a distinct dumbbell shape to create drag, increase water resistance and create a challenging upper-body workout. When submerged, they feel and act like weighted barbells underwater, except you must resist buoyant force pulling up instead of dragging down.

AquaJogger ActiveBells
AquaJogger Active Bells

Designed by AquaJogger, these EVA foam dumbbells are the perfect workout partner for those just getting started, rehab patients, and older folks. About 30% smaller than the AquaJogger Delta Bells, the Active Bells feature the same triangular shape and padded grip. And, you'll be able to toss your bells on the deck without fear of them rolling away. The flat-edge design not only keeps bells from rolling, but also makes for a variable resistance level with a turn of the wrist.

Hand Buoys

Looking for a new way to challenge your upper body? We've got just the thing. Our carefully-selected range of hand buoys are perfect for enhancing a water aerobics class, rehabbing shoulder injuries, or working out at home.

What Are Hand Buoys

Hand buoys help you build muscle and achieve cardiovascular health by resisting water's buoyancy. Their foam discs strive to stay afloat, creating forceful counteraction for your underwater presses, flys, or curls. Some acrobatic exercisers even use them under the knees or armpits for supplementary flotation during a water exercise routine. Because they're so light (most pairs weigh less than a pound), hand buoys are no sweat to tote to and from the local pool. But if foam buoys are too big for your bag, a pair of fan paddles will do the trick. Their flat, space-saving design makes them practical enough to bring with you on vacation. And their plastic construction means they'll provide omnidrectional resistance.

Choosing Hand Buoys

Choosing hand buoys can be a challenge, especially when the options are seemingly endless (and the variations slight). Nearly all hand buoys are shaped like oversized hand weights, with a few notable exceptions such as the Aqua Sphere Ergo Bells and the TYR Resistance Planes. Most models are available in multiple levels of resistance, ranging from teeny AquaJogger Active Bells to the giants of the water dumbbell world: Water Gear's 120% Elite Resistance Bells.

If you find yourself with the wrong size, don't worry - hand buoys are intrinsically adjustable. If you have a too-small pair, increase the resistance by extending your arms away from your body, moving more forcefully, or quickening your pace. But if your resistance bells are too hefty, pull your elbows in to your waist and move slowly to ease the workload.

AquaGear Recommends...

We've been working in the aquatic exercise and therapy industry for decades and we've seen a few exceptional products rise to the top. When it comes to water exercise equipment, there's no question that Hydro-Fit hand buoys are an industry favorite. They're not just good-looking; they're also made in the USA to the highest quality standards. Their solid, ECO foam composition combats deterioration caused by chlorine. Their three size options (mini, regular, and jumbo) provide suitable resistance for grandmas and grandpas, as well as high-level athletes.

Prefer something less ordinary? Try the unique, triangular AquaJogger Delta Bells. They won't roll away when you set them on the deck and they pack away tightly, making them convenient for aqua aerobics classes. Plus, Delta Bells provide potent resistance that's easily varied with a turn of the wrist.

Caring for Hand Buoys

Once your hand buoys are safely at home, proper care is essential for extending the life of the foam components. If you're working out at a YMCA or other public pool, it's even more important because of the higher concentration of chlorine. After each and every use, rinse the chlorinated water off and lay your hand buoys out to dry in a cool place, away from direct sunlight.
