DASI Specialized Interventions

What is DASI?

Diagnostic Aquatic Systems Integration, or DASI, is a theory that deals with the therapeutic foundations of aquatic rehabilitation. Therapists practicing under this theory formulate specific diagnoses so that certain objectives can be established and rehabilitation plans can be carried out. Unlike other one-size-fits-all therapy methods, the Diagnostic Aquatic Systems Integration Theory offers therapists a process to implement programs using a problem-solving approach. This efficient method allows them to make educated decisions and modifications based on specific patients' needs. DASI based rehabilitation programs can be used for orthopedic, neurological, pediatric, geriatric, and cardiopulmonary pathologies. In addition to helping therapists find real solutions to their patients' ailments, DASI also helps to provide a basis for the biomechanical, physiological, and neurophysiological principles that determine the science behind aquatic movement.

About the Author and Book

Luis G. Vargas, PhD, PT, ATRIC has devoted the last 20 years to studying and improving traditional aquatic physical therapy techniques. His passion for advancing his own training and certification helps to further his work in the field of aquatic physical therapy. Dr. Vargas personally formulated, developed, and implemented the Diagnostic Aquatics Systems Integration Theory in his own practice.

In Vargas' book, Diagnostic Aquatics Systems Integration Specialized Interventions, Dr. Vargas focuses on seven specific clinical areas, all of which have been bolstered with the help of the DASI theory. These include:

  • The Aquatic Pain Inhibition Protocol
  • The Aquatic Sacroiliac Dysfunctional Protocol
  • The Adapted Pediatric Wassertanzen Protocol
  • The Aquatic Spasticity Inhibition Protocol
  • Biomechanical and Clinical Applications of Ai Chi
  • The Theraputic Aquassage Protocol
  • The Aquatic Lumbopelvic Stabilization Protocol

In addition to adding in his own research and insight, Dr. Vargas collaborates with well-known specialists in the aquatic therapy field. Experts such as Flavia E. Bayron, Judith Alvarado Bradley and Ruth Sova lend their expertise.

Diagnostic Aquatics Systems Integration Specialized Interventions, which runs 154 pages, was first published in 2013 by Idyll Arbor. Find Luis Vargas' Aquatic Therapy Interventions and Applications Book.

The Bottom Line

Diagnostic Aquatics Systems Integration Specialized Interventions can help experienced therapists fully understand the DASI theory, as well as assist them in incorporating new, effective recovery methods into their existing rehabilitation programs.
