Positive Drive Fins

The Finis Positive Drive Fins have a unique asymmetrical design for use in all swim strokes. The Positive Drive Fins are specifically designed to increase leg strength, foot speed and ankle flexibility for all four competitive swim strokes - making these unorthodox fins a vital piece of training gear for the experienced or competitive swimmer.

Elliptical Blade Design

These versatile training fins are intended for use in all swim strokes, including the breaststroke! The fins' asymmetrical design and elliptical blade work together to promote a natural inward “supination” kick cycle. The blade generates correct propulsion in all kicking styles so you won't lose your rhythm.

A plush ergonomic design with designated left and right foot pockets comfortably places feet in an ideal swimming position. The fins are closed toe, providing superior energy transfer from the ankles and feet compared to an open toe fin. An adjustable heel strap creates a customized fit that secures the fin and allows the feet to flex naturally.

Color and Sizing

The Finis Positive Drive Fins come in one color option: yellow and black. They are available in the following sizes:

Size Kids Men Women EUR
XS Y8.0 - Y13.0 31 - 33

For your convenience in approximating fin weight, a medium fin weighs 6.7 ounces.

To really work your entire body, team the Finis Positive Drive Fins with the Water Gear Neoprene Water Fitness Gloves for a full upper and lower body workout.

If you like the Finis Positive Drive Fins, you might also like the Aqua Sphere Alpha Fins, designed to work well with the breaststroke and made with durable EVA foam. Or you can check out the DMC Elite Swim Fins; these fins help the swimmer to achieve an exact balanced kick while using their preferred armstroke.

The AquaGear Opinion

These fins are amazing in that they allow you to safely build power in your breaststroke kick! Comfortable, light and ergonomically correct, these are the golden fin for building strength and power while also perfecting technique. Because they cater to every kick style, these fins make a great training companion for an Individual Medley.

The Bottom Line

The Finis Positive Drive Fin is a versatile training fin that sets you up for immense improvement in the speed and power of your kick in any style. These fins are recommended for the experienced or competitive swimmer trying to gain an edge on their opponents.

Duck, duck....
Written by on November 5th

I am 52 and swim for cardio and resistance training. I am not really looking to increase speed necessarily, and definitely not looking to compete. My workouts consist of about 2500 yards, 4 days a week in a combination of laps with and without paddles and fins, sprints, and board work. I purchased these fins specifically to work on breast stroke kick, and really thought they might replace my short fins for some of my other laps as well. Here is what happened: the little duck feet trimmed an average of 1.5 to 2 strokes off each lap. My swim watch said that equates to a better efficiency score, and certainly my laps are quicker. The fins are light and comfortable to wear, and honestly, the first session, I was feeling like the laps were 'easier'....but that did not mean I didn't feel the workout! By the end of the week, I could feel the difference in the muscles, and am especially pleased using them for the breaststroke kick (which is by far my worst stroke). What the fins did not seem to do, is displace as much water as my other fins (the resistance piece), which really, in thinking about it, they should not do--they are about efficiency. So, now I incorporate both sets to get the workout I want, which works great even if my dream of having a few less items to cart on deck wasn't realized :-). They are excellent for sprint laps, allow use of a fin for breaststroke, and are a great training fin to increase efficiency. They are not the only fin I want in my gear bag though, hence the rating of 4.

Did not work for us...

My son bought these as requested for his swim team but even though we bought per the size chart and his foot size, he found they were too tight, cut into his foot and we would not wear them. We ended up having to buy a more traditional swim fin that fit his foot better.
