The Barracuda Wire Mask is the perfect recreational swim mask. Its unique rubber wire construction, along with extra wide, crystal clear lenses, give swimmers a panoramic view of their underwater world.
What is Wire technology?
Wire construction is a patented process that injects rubber wire into a molded frame. This unique feature allows the mask to fit and form to a wide range of face shapes. While the rubber wire holds the frame solidly to the face, its flexibility allows it to gently hug the curves around the eyes and face. The Wire Mask is lighter and more adaptable than other conventional hard-framed goggles.
One of the best features of the swim mask is its ability to give an optimal field of visibility. The wrap-around lenses produce an unparalleled panoramic view while underwater. This is a mandatory feature for any open water swim mask! In addition to the lens clarity, the watertight, soft silicone seal helps stop annoying leaks and keeps your vision clear. You can further keep your swimming mask as clear as possible, even in the deepest or roughest of water, by pairing the wide lenses with Barracuda's own Defogger. These anti-fog drops stave away annoying fog and help maintain the Wire Mask's crystal clear lenses.
Comfort and Function
It's not just the flexible rubber wire injection that keeps the swim mask feeling comfortable and secure. The Barracuda is also equipped with a large silicone strap for extra comfort and security. The strap is held into place by quick-adjust side-clips. These simple, yet effective, mechanisms allow swimmers to adjust the feel of a strap quickly and easily, in and out of the water. While the Wire Mask is known for its comfort and reliable seal, it is made for slightly heavier use than the brand's Predator Goggles. Similar to the Wire Mask, the Barracuda Predators are also designed for outdoor, recreational and/or open water swimming. They sit a bit closer to the face than the Wire Frame, and are therefore better suited for open water competitions.
The AquaGear Opinion
AquaGear testers liked that, with a few simple adjustments, these goggles formed to fit any face shape. Instead of making the mask more rigid, swimmers found that the wire injected into the mold actually made for a softer, more malleable feel than a traditional all-plastic frame. While the lenses gave extraordinary peripheral vision, the lens angle made perception ever so slightly warped. But it's nothing that can't be adjusted to with a little use and practice.
The Bottom Line
Between the mask's patented design and flexible wide lenses, the Barracuda Wire Mask takes shape as the perfect recreational swim mask. You're sure to love its leak-proof, anti-fog performance at the beach, lake, or even in your own backyard pool.
