Kickboards

Brings Focus Downward

Performing the exact opposite function of a pull buoy, a kickboard is typically used to isolate the lower body for swim training practice. Younger users rely on the assistive buoyancy to practice submerging the face and kicking simultaneously.

Types of Kickboards

Most kickboards come in a standard style - a rigid rectangle with a slightly rounded front end to cut through the water. However, competitive swimmers should seek a board with a more streamlined nose to allow for practice at race speeds. The Aqua Sphere Sprint Board provides an excellent example.

Other boards are designed for stroke correction, like the Finis Alignment Kickboard. Some boards pull double-duty and function as both a pull buoy and a kickboard, saving space in your gear bag.

Alternate Uses

Aside from the more common usage, kickboards can also be utilized for balance therapy by sitting or kneeling, or for resistive exercise (try holding a kickboard submerged vertically like a gravestone and jog forward).
