Open water swimmers, divers and triathletes need help being noticed while in the water. Made in the United States, the Goat Gear AquaSpotter’s prominent design allows swimmers to train without having to worry about being visible to recreational watercraft.
Perfect Open Water Swimming Accessory
While your choice of goggles, cap and suit might be the first thing you think of when it comes to open water swimming, the most important thing you need to keep in mind is your visibility while in the water. Open water swimming is a fun, challenging way to switch up your exercise routine. But being in open water, especially a body that’s shared by other swimmers and watercraft, can bring along a variety of risks. In order to keep you visible while in the water, Goat Gear came up with an innovative and eye-catching product: The AquaSpotter. This lightweight device straps comfortably around the waist and hoists a brightly colored orange flag 18” into the air to help keep you visible while swimming. The flag is easily seen while swimming and allows boaters, jet skis, snorkel guides and lifeguards to see you more clearly. Pair the device with the U.S. Divers Inflatable Snorkel Vest, which comes in a high visibility yellow color to add further measures of safety to your swim.
Adds Virtually No Drag
Contrary to what you might think upon seeing this design, the AquaSpotter adds virtually no drag to your swim. Between the adjustable, neoprene belt and lightweight, removable 18” pole, the Goat Gear product produces little to no resistance while swimming. The pole remains upright when horizontally positioned and ensures that the 8”x6” orange flag does not get tangled in your kick. The AquaSpotter’s belt can be adjusted to fit waist sizes from 27”- 40” and comes with two slide adjusters to always ensure a snug fit. The belt also includes an ultra water-resistant pocket. The compartment easily holds keys, IDs, or any other small item you’d like to keep on you while open water swimming.
Acts as a Training Tool
Besides being an ideal accessory for triathletes, open water swimmers and even snorkels, the Goat Gear AquaSpotter can even help you work on your stroke form and body positioning. Because of its placement around the waist, coaches, trainers or even other swimmers can help pinpoint a swimmer’s hip rotation. Being able to actually visualize a swimmer’s undulation gives them the opportunity to fine-tune their stroke and the potential to improve overall efficiency and speed.
The AquaGear Opinion
The testers in the AquaGear pool were ready to try out this unique item. Before even getting in the water, the swimmers found the AquaSpotter quite easy to assemble and disassemble. And the open water and snorkeling enthusiasts in the bunch really loved the convenience of the stay-dry zipper compartment for keys, ID, etc. It’s a great feature, especially if you drive to your swimming location. The testers thought that the neoprene belt was soft and comfortable, even when worn directly against the skin. And the belt’s ability to quickly and snugly fit around the middle was also a big plus.
The Bottom Line
If you’re an open water swimmer, then the Goat Gear AquaSpotter is a must have. Remain visible at all times and ensure yourself a safe, comfortable swim!
