The Barracuda H2RX Goggles provide near-sighted swimmers with high quality polished corrective lenses to ensure that each and every swim is as crystal clear as possible.
Corrective Lens Power
If you’re required to wear corrective lenses outside the water, it makes absolutely no sense to not do the same while you’re in the pool. Before prescription grade goggle lenses were available, swimmers weren’t always treated to a 20/20 swim. But thanks to advances in research and production, corrective goggle lenses are widely available. The Barracuda H2RX Goggles aim to give each and every swimmer an individualized pair that will help him or her see as clearly as possible when at the pool. The prescription lenses are available in diopters ranging from -1.5 to -10.0. Unlike other models, such as Aqua Sphere Eagle Swim Goggles, which require swimmers to manually interchange corrective lens pieces, the Barracudas are pre-made with your prescription already permanently placed into the goggle frame.
Low Profile Frame
One of the best features of the Barracuda H2RX Goggle is that it features an extremely low profile frame for a prescription strength lens. The soft seal around the eye helps cushion the delicate skin, but remains streamline and tight fitting enough for an ensured leak free and comfortable fit. Because the pair can reduce as much drag as a competition specific goggle, the H2RX’s are ideal both pool and open water use. In fact, their low profile and wide angled lenses make them great for triathletes. They’ll help you clearly see the finish line, along with every stroke, peddle and step along the way. Keep your prescription goggle’s lenses as clear as possible by pairing them with Barracuda’s own Defogger. It’s great at keeping all kinds of eyewear from fogging up.
Finding Your Diopter Strength
Although similar to your glasses prescription, swim goggle diopter lenses require a quick calculation to ensure that the proper strength is selected and post-swim headaches are avoided. Looking at your prescription, you'll want to locate the sphere and cylinder for each eye. Use the following formula to find the right diopter lens for you:
(1/2)(Cylinder) + Sphere = Diopter
Remember: Water will refract light and correct vision a bit without any prescriptive power applied. With that in mind, always select a diopter strength that is one step lower than the outcome of your calculation. If you need help, please give us a call or open a chat session for guidance.
Additional Specs
While the eye pieces may not be interchangeable, Barracuda has fit the pair with three interchangeable nose pieces so that you can truly get a custom fit for your face shape. The three options are guaranteed to fit a wide range of facial bone structures. The pair is equipped with double adjusting straps, which help hold the goggle firmly in place. Barracuda has even thrown in a hard case to help keep the H2RX Goggles as thoroughly protected as possible. Each lens offers 100% UVA and UVB protection and the goggles are available in either a blue lens/blue frame model or smoke lens/black frame combo.
The AquaGear Opinion
The AquaGear testers strapped on a pair of the Barracuda prescription goggles and gave them a whirl around the pool. Swimmers that wore glasses or corrective lenses outside the water noted that the goggles provided accurate lens strength. Along with corrective 20/20 vision, the H2RX goggles gave swimmers excellent visual clarity. Testers remarked how comfortable they were to wear and that they were extremely low profile for prescription goggles. Besides the lens quality, swimmers also noted that the adjustable straps were simple to readjust, even while wearing.
The Bottom Line
If you need a little help seeing clearly in the pool and are tired of wasting time and money on prescription goggles that just don’t clear things up, then make the switch to the Barracuda H2RX Goggle and see what all you’ve been missing.
