Ideal for training sessions, the Aqua Sphere Vortex V8 Hand Paddles help build upper body strength and improve overall stroke form.
High Resistance Level
The Vortex V8 Paddles are unlike other hand paddles. Between their contoured fit, custom silicone tubing, and anti-wobble rib channels, this Aqua Sphere product really stands out from the bunch. But it’s the paddles' ability to produce high levels of resistance that really makes them one of the top hand paddle choices. Because the paddles don’t feature any holes for water to pass through, they challenge the upper body like few other hand paddles are able to. Their solid, one-piece construction allows advanced swimmers to intensely strengthen arm, back, and chest muscles. They can also help improve stroke form and tempo. But if you’re not quite sure that the Vortex’s are suitable for your swim level, then you might be better off with a pair of Ergo Flex Hand Paddles. These alternative Aqua Sphere products are slightly less rigid, and therefore produce less resistance.
While the non-perforated design gives swimmers the ultimate resistance workout, the contoured shape of the Aqua Sphere hand paddles is ergonomically designed to fit the curves of the palm perfectly. The dedicated left and right hand paddles not only allow for a more comfortable fit, but can also improve stroke mechanics and technique. Plus, the contoured base and thumb locator help to promote proper hand positioning, even when you’re not training with the paddles. Because they are so easy and comfortable to wear, they can be worn while training the lower body as well. Pair the hand paddles with the Aqua Sphere P2K. This dual pull buoy and kickboard can be used to train the lower body, as well as work in conjunction with the Vortex V8 Paddles for the ultimate upper body workout.
The Vortex V8 Paddles come with adjustable silicone tubing for a very secure and reliable fit. The tubing must be thread through the holes on the outside of the paddle. Once the silicone material is in place, you will never have to mess with it again. The soft and flexible strap material allows for a comfortable and secure fit. In addition to the stabilized fit, the hand paddles also feature anti-wobble ribs. These help channel water while swimming and provide stability while slicing through the water. And to further give you peace of mind, Aqua Sphere has thrown in a one year manufacturer warranty.
The AquaGear Opinion
Testers in the AquaGear pool strapped on a pair of the Vortex V8’s and got to work. Swimmers remarked that the hand paddles’ contoured design produced a more comfortable and even swim. Unlike other swim paddles, the Aqua Sphere’s do not have any holes, and therefore produce a great amount of resistance. Because of this, AquaGear testers thought that the Vortex V8 Hand Paddles were better suited for avid, advanced swimmers looking to build upper body strength.
The Bottom Line
The Aqua Sphere Vortex V8 Hand Paddles give swimmers an ultimate upper body workout in a compact size. If you’re a serious swimmer looking for a great arm, back and chest workout, pick up a pair of these swim paddles today!

Overall, I love the ergonomic hand contour design. The hand strap fits nicely and does not cause any hand cramping. Although I love the contour, the size is a bit excessive for my smaller hand. I've used these for the past 2 weeks but have only pulled 200-300meters with them. After a few hundred meters, I starting to feel a little too much upper trap and shoulder cramping. Great product for anyone with a larger hand size with no history of shoulder problems. I wish there was an in-between size available for this product.
